The famous Puerto Rican composer and singer Tegui Calderón Rosario, better known as Tego Calderón, was born on the 1st of February in 1972 in Santurce (Puerto Rico).
Return to Puerto Rico after his USA stay
Tego Calderón did not have much luck after his return to Puerto Rico. He had trouble making a breakthrough as a musician there and ended up in a criminal world. Eventually, he even got in jail for possession of firearms. Nevertheless, it was supposed to become a fresh start for his career as a musician.
The first success: El Abayarde
White Lion Records released his debut album "El Abayarde" following his release out of jail in 2002. This album was an absolute success, selling more than 300.000 copies, with 50.000 of them being sold just in the first month. It provided Tego Calderón with countless tours, concerts and projects. His success with this album was so stunning, that from then on many of his fans started calling him "El Abayarde".
All of the songs from this album were a success: including "El Abayarde", "Cambumbo", "Tus ojos", "Planté Bandera" and "Bonsái". Later, on the 1st of July 2003 RCA record company began launching this album gradually in the USA. Pretty soon Tego had the same success with it as he did in Puerto Rico and was even nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards.
Tego Calderón as an actor
Apart from his career as a musician, Tego also worked as an actor. He got a leading part in the film "45" and also had an opportunity to work with eminent musicians from various branches, such as Ángel “Cachete” Maldonado and Gilberto Santa Rosa.
Return to Miami: "El Enemy de los Guasibiri"
His music was strongly characterized by dancehall after his return to Miami. In 2004 came out his album "El Enemy de los Guasíbiri". Thanks to the popularity of his Hip Hop and reggaeton musical directions, Calderón received multiple offers from producers, and was able to develop them further. He took part in such productions as "Yeah de Usher" or in the songs "Lean Back" by Fat Joe and "Oye Mi Canto" by N.O.R.E.
