- The name Daiquiri originates from Cuba. It is also the name of a beach and a mine.
- Although considered to be a cocktail from Cuba, there are sources assuming that it was created by Jennings Cox from North America in 1890. They say that Cox, who did not have any gin handy, began mixing rum with various ingredients until he discovered a simple combination with sugar and lemon and was happy with it.
- It was his Italian companion, named Pagliuchi, a mineworker, who baptized the so-called Daiquiri drink and brought it all the way to Havana.
