Recipe

  • 8 tenths of Cachaca or Cachaza
  • 2 tenths of lime or lemon juice
  • white or brown sugar (depending on taste)
  • crushed ice

 

Preparation

  • Cut lime or lemon in halves and squeeze them.
  • Mix juice with 1 or 2 teaspoons of sugar in an old fashioned glass.
  • Add squeezed lime or lemon wedges and crushed ice.
  • Slowly pour Cachaca into the glass while stirring.

  • Despite its Brazilian origin, we decided to add this cocktail to our recipe collection, because it is considered to be one of the most popular cocktails in the world.
  • There are more than 3.000 brands of Cachaca in the world, besides this beverage is the national drink of Brazil.
  • It is made from sugarcane alcohol, developed in Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro, in order to satisfy tourists' thirst during hot Brazilian nights.
  • Despite its high alcohol content (31%), Caipirinha is a very refreshing beverage.
  • The mixture is perfect: the sour taste of lime or lemon, the sweetness of sugar and Cachaca create a real treat.
  • In the course of time, a countless number of variations were developed due to the great popularity of this drink, including, for example, "Caipiroshka", which contains Vodka instead of Cachaca or "Caipirissima", with rum.
